Gartelmann Wines specialises in the classic Hunter Valley varieties of Semillon and Shiraz. We also produce excellent wines from the well known varieties of Chardonnay, Merlot and Verdelho.

Gartelmann Wines make a Sparkling Vintage Brut made in the traditional “Methode Champenoise” it has exquisitely fine beads and aging on lees has provided a soft, creamy nutty taste, wonderful for any occasion. The popular Sparkling Shiraz is based on our Wilhelm Shiraz, the secondary fermentation that produced this sparkling wine has added creamy yeast characters, which create a wonderful palate pleasing Sparkling Red.
Gartelmann white wines are made from premium free run juice only. We currently have four white wines on sale at the cellar door: Two Semillons - our flagship Semillon “Benjamin” named in honour of Jan’s father and Gartelmann Semillon - our Semillon is made in the traditional Hunter Valley unoaked style. The Gartelmann Chardonnay is produced from low yielding vines and produces high quality fruit each year it is barrel fermented and matured in French Oak.
Shiraz is the oldest Hunter red wine variety, and is the flagship red wine for the region. We make two distinctly different styles of Shiraz - Gartelmann “Diedrich” Shiraz is made in the classic Hunter style, with maturation in French and American Oak. Gartelmann “Wilhelm” Shiraz is a generous medium bodied Shiraz showing sweet mid palate fruit with a long finish and good balance. Gartelmann Merlot grapes are hand-picked from vines on a high trellis for maximum ripeness and flavour.
The perfect accompaniment to serve with a cheese platter or dessert, the Gartelmann Dessert Semillon “Ambrosia” is a favourite of many a cellar door visitor.
