A new chardonnay, part of a new Gartelmann Reserve Range. It is elegant, subdued, exhibiting delightful citrus and flinty characters with a good dash of excellent French oak to add the vanilla and toasty bouquet we expect.
What an amazing nose. When the bottle is first opened there is blueberry pie, rosemary and a big waft of peppermint. Let the glass stand if you can, then try again. Rich damson plums, and walnuts. And in the mouth there are subtle tannins, tarry and satisfying. For a wine of this depth and strength the acid is muted and very gently supports red and dark berry fruit, with a unique vanillin nuttiness on the finish.
Predominantly lemon and grapefruit characters feature on the nose as blossoms, and race around the palate as zesty fruit. The acid is tight and refreshing, the palate long and invigorating with a drawstring of minerality to bring it all together. Do not fight against the temptation to have another glass, nor the strong feeling that you should put a few down to observe over the next 5 or 10 years. Pavarotti, classic, clean, intensely dramatic with fantastically sweet high notes but a seamless range and depth of flavour underneath the smooth surface. This wine is a class act: engaging cassis fruit overture on the nose, blended blackberries and raspberries symphonise on the palate, with only the best of oak nuances, and a softly tannic final dénouement. Sublime, and delicious.
Gartelmann Sparkling Shiraz is our contribution to an iconic Australian wine style. Richly fruited Shiraz is given an extra dimension from secondary fermentation.
4.5 stars Winestate Central NSW Tasting Edition May 2017 // This is not a wine for the faint-hearted, redolent of warm Mudgee summers with the smokiness of a distant bushfire. Dusty blackcurrant characters immediately assail the nose with sweet cedar and sandalwood notes following. If you can inhale just round the edges you’ll also see a spiciness... is it eucalyptus or paprika, lanolin, white pepper or maybe even jasmine.
90 Points. "... The hue is bright, although relatively light; the light to medium-bodied palate has notes of fresh cassis, and has not been forced by harsh extraction to exhibit more than it has..." Wine Companion 2016

A 2019 gem consisting of 100% Shiraz and abundant “strawberries and cream” characters. Subtle sweetness is offset with balanced acid so that the wine fills the mouth whilst remaining dry and lively. A rosé for red wine lovers and the young or young at heart. Enhance with smoky or salty fare. Serve chilled with soy salmon, BBQ seafood or grilled haloumi.
The nose is all about pears... just-ripe pears, with an almost-citrus tang and a touch of apple and smoky lanolin. In your mouth this develops with the classic Pinot Gris voluptuously smooth richness, even a slight oiliness, balanced by subtle but long-lived acid that takes the flavours right to the back of the palate where they explode like sherbet for a wonderful lime finale.
