2019 Gartelmann 'Stephanie' Pinot Gris
Tasting Notes: The nose is all about pears... just-ripe pears, with an almost-citrus tang and a touch of apple and smoky lanolin. In your mouth this develops with the classic Pinot Gris voluptuously smooth richness, even a slight oiliness, balanced by subtle but long-lived acid that takes the flavours right to the back of the palate where they explode like sherbet for a wonderful lime finale. This wine can definitely have two facets ... when it is cold, love it for its zing and refreshing fruit flavours. As it warms, it takes on a comforting wealth of complex, ripe deliciousness.
Food Matching: It will sit very happily with the lunchtime seafood BBQ, but not intimidated by a dressed up dinner party featuring citrusy pork, duck, fish or salads
Cellaring: Drink now as a young wine, or cellar until 2020.

"Here is another fine wine from Gartelmann's - they never disappoint. This Pinot Gris is true to style, with citrus and pear aromas coupled with just a hint of passionfruit. It has a well-rounded, yet crispy and zingy palate with oodles of flavour with elegant acidity. TOP STUFF." Dan Traucki, Wine Assist
"... Aromas of pears and white flowers are brushed with a touch of musk and honey. Easy drinking, honeyed tones roll through the mouth as do green apples but there's a lingering sweetness which just hangs. Pears come running again late - there's plenty on offer here..." QWine
"An intriguing colour in the glass; a very light peach that is as pretty as it is unusual. The nose is heady combination of honeysuckle, pear and and hints of Turkish delight that emphasises the wines youthfulness. There is plenty of weight and structure on the palate, with a sweetness of apple and pear fruit that is contrasted by driving citrus notes and a savoury thread to finish that at this point in the wines development overshadows the fruit, a few more months in bottle will help settle."
