3.5 stars Winestate Magazine, May 2017 // Pavarotti, classic, clean, intensely dramatic with fantastically sweet high notes but a seamless range and depth of flavour underneath the smooth surface. This wine is a class act: engaging cassis fruit overture on the nose, blended blackberries and raspberries symphonise on the palate, with only the best of oak nuances, and a softly tannic final dénouement. Sublime, and delicious.
4.5 stars Winestate Central NSW Tasting Edition May 2017 // This is not a wine for the faint-hearted, redolent of warm Mudgee summers with the smokiness of a distant bushfire. Dusty blackcurrant characters immediately assail the nose with sweet cedar and sandalwood notes following. If you can inhale just round the edges you’ll also see a spiciness... is it eucalyptus or paprika, lanolin, white pepper or maybe even jasmine.
This wine is named after Jorg Gartelmann’s son Phillip. Finishing slowly but intensely, this is an exuberant youngster to watch develop over the next ten years. Give it some space and observe it flower into something quite remarkable. This is a wine style designed for food, good cheddars, great steaks, divine sausages of the home and gourmet variety. Lamb, Pork, Duck and Salty Cheeses. Drink from 2017, great from 2019, cellar max to 2024
More in the line of the classic Hunter “bigger” style of Verdelho compared to the recent past’s “lean, mean and green” vogue, this 2018 Jessica exudes passionfruit and pineapple on the nose with a waft of Tahitian lime sherbet.

This 2017 offering has aromas of damson plum, white pepper, raspberry and strawberry.
The nose is all about pears... just-ripe pears, with an almost-citrus tang and a touch of apple and smoky lanolin. In your mouth this develops with the classic Pinot Gris voluptuously smooth richness, even a slight oiliness, balanced by subtle but long-lived acid that takes the flavours right to the back of the palate where they explode like sherbet for a wonderful lime finale.
Vibrant Plum Colour Nose of Black Cherry, mulberry and fresh spices with hints of mocca. A medium to full bodied traditional Hunter Valley Style wine showing firm velvet tannins layered over flavours of blackcurrants and plum. Well integrated oak gives the wine structure and persistence of length.
Our Gartelmann Wilhelm offers a warm palate of balanced ripe fruit flavours and invigorating acid. The finish is unmistakably "Hunter Valley". Deep ruby garnet in colour, it has aromas rich in cherries and blackberries with the merest hint of sandalwood. It is no shrinking violet, yet the warmth on the palate is happily balanced with ripe fruit flavours, invigorating acid and velvet smoky-wood tannins. The finish is unmistakeably 'Hunter Valley' with a compote of chariness, aniseed and dark berries.
Gold Medal 2017 Cowra Wine Show // Predominantly lemon and grapefruit characters feature on the nose as blossoms, and race around the palate as zesty fruit. The acid is tight and refreshing, the palate long and invigorating with a drawstring of minerality to bring it all together. Do not fight against the temptation to have another glass, nor the strong feeling that you should put a few down to observe over the next 5 or 10 years.
